Bugs used to die and pile up in my carriage lamp and became a regular maintenance task. This fixture has no shelf to collect bug parts.
I installed a compact florescent(CF) bulb that has an outer glass cover in the shape of a normal light bulb. This bulb hangs out the bottom of the light shield by about a half inch, thus making the installation non-compliant with dark sky. This was the smallest CF bulb I could find that did not have all the curly glass for bugs to nest inside. I love the light and look of all four of these fixtures that I bought.

Well built and finished fixture with no glass to keep clean from the nighttime insects. Also easy to clean and change bulbs with open bottom.
Although advertised as dark sky, any bulb larger than a refrigerator bulb hangs down below the bottom of the hood and is visible above the horizontal plane. We have not found any compact florescent bulbs short enough to not show below the hood. Other than that, it looks very attractive at night with the light patterns created by the grape vine designs.
